What Is on Top of the Contemporary Resort?

By Anna Duncan

If you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World in Florida, you might be wondering what’s on top of the Contemporary Resort. This iconic hotel is one of the most recognizable landmarks at Disney World, with its sleek, modern design and monorail running right through the center of the building.

But what’s up there on top? Let’s take a closer look.

First things first: to get to the top of the Contemporary Resort, you’ll need to take an elevator or stairs from one of the lower floors. Once you reach the top, you’ll find yourself on a spacious observation deck that offers stunning views of Magic Kingdom park and beyond.

One thing that immediately catches your eye when you step out onto the deck is the giant mural that covers much of one side of the building. This colorful artwork was created by Disney legend Mary Blair and depicts a whimsical landscape featuring Cinderella Castle and other iconic Disney characters and scenes.

As you walk around the perimeter of the observation deck, you’ll also notice several seating areas where you can relax and take in the view. Some of these areas are shaded by large umbrellas or awnings, while others are open to the sun for optimal tanning opportunities.

If you’re feeling hungry or thirsty, fear not: there’s a bar up here too! The California Grill Lounge serves up cocktails and small plates inspired by California cuisine, along with stunning views of both Magic Kingdom and Epcot fireworks displays (depending on which night it is).

But perhaps the most unique feature on top of the Contemporary Resort is something that most visitors never even notice: a pair of giant metal rings suspended in mid-air. These rings were originally part of an art installation created for Walt Disney World’s 15th anniversary celebration in 1986, but have remained in place ever since.

So there you have it: what’s on top of the Contemporary Resort? Stunning views, amazing artwork, delicious food and drink, and a touch of Disney magic in the form of those mysterious metal rings. If you’re looking for a unique way to experience Walt Disney World, be sure to add a visit to the top of the Contemporary Resort to your itinerary.
