What Should I Bring on Vacation?

By Alice Nichols

Going on vacation is an exciting time, but it can also be stressful trying to figure out what to bring. To help alleviate some of that stress, we’ve put together a list of essential items to bring on your next vacation.

Documents

Before you even start packing, make sure you have all the necessary documents for your trip. This includes your passport (if traveling internationally), driver’s license or ID, boarding passes, and any travel visas.

Clothing

When it comes to clothing, it’s important to pack for the climate and activities you’ll be doing. If you’re going to a warm destination, pack lightweight clothing and swimwear. If you’re going somewhere cold, make sure to bring layers and warm jackets.

  • T-shirts
  • Shorts/pants/skirts
  • Sweaters/sweatshirts
  • Jacket/coat
  • Swimwear
  • Socks/underwear
  • Sneakers/sandals/boots (depending on the activities planned)

Toiletries and Medications

Don’t forget about your toiletries and medications! Make a list of everything you need for your daily routine, such as toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, deodorant, and makeup. Also make sure to pack any necessary medications and first aid supplies.

Tip: Bring travel-sized toiletries to save space in your luggage.

Electronics and Entertainment

In today’s digital age, it’s hard to imagine going on vacation without our electronic devices. Make sure to pack all necessary chargers for your phone, tablet or laptop, camera, and any other electronics you plan on bringing. It’s also a good idea to bring a portable charger in case you don’t have access to an outlet.

Tip: Download books, movies, and music onto your devices before leaving home.

Miscellaneous Items

Lastly, don’t forget about the miscellaneous items that can make your vacation more enjoyable. Here are some ideas:

  • Sunglasses/hat
  • Sunscreen/insect repellent
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Travel pillow/blanket
  • Snacks/gum/mints
  • Cash/credit card/traveler’s checks

Tip: Pack a small bag or backpack for day trips and outings.

Now that you have a better idea of what to bring on vacation, it’s time to start packing! Remember to double check your list before leaving home and enjoy your well-deserved break.
