In Rome, the closing times of various establishments can be quite different from what you may be used to in other cities. It’s important to know the closing hours of different places so that you can plan your day accordingly. Let’s take a look at what time different things close in Rome:

Museums and Galleries

If you’re a fan of art and history, Rome has a plethora of museums and galleries to explore. Most museums in Rome close around 7:30 PM, but it’s always a good idea to check their individual websites for specific closing times. Some popular museums like the Vatican Museums and the Capitoline Museums have extended evening hours on certain days.

Restaurants typically close around midnight, although some may stay open later, especially those located in tourist areas. Cafes, on the other hand, usually close earlier in the evening, around 9 PM or 10 PM.

However, keep in mind that many shops also observe a midday break called “siesta” where they close for a few hours during lunchtime. This usually happens between 1 PM and 4 PM.

Supermarkets

If you need to buy groceries or other essentials during your stay in Rome, Supermarkets are your best bet. Supermarkets typically close around 8:30 PM or 9 PM on weekdays.

On Sundays, however, most Supermarkets close earlier at around 1:30 PM or 2 PM. It’s always a good idea to check the opening hours of your nearest supermarket as they may vary.

Rome has an extensive public transportation system that includes buses, trams, and the metro. The closing times of public transportation in Rome vary depending on the day of the week and the specific line or route. Generally, buses and trams run until around midnight, while the metro closes at 11:30 PM.
