What Was the Name of the British Cruise Ship?

By Alice Nichols

The name of the British cruise ship was the MS Sea Diamond. Built in 1984, the MS Sea Diamond was originally owned and operated by Epirotiki Line, a popular cruise line in Greece. The ship had a capacity of 1,400 passengers and 500 crew members, making it one of the largest passenger ships in operation at that time.

In 2007, the MS Sea Diamond was sold to Louis Cruise Lines, a company owned by Louis Group which also operates some of Europe’s most popular cruise lines. The ship was refurbished and renamed to MS Louis Majesty and continued to offer cruises around the Mediterranean Sea.

The MS Sea Diamond made headlines in April 2007 when it ran aground off the coast of Santorini Island in Greece. The incident resulted in the death of two passengers and caused extensive damage to both the hull and interior of the ship. After an investigation by Greek authorities, it was determined that pilot error was responsible for causing the ship to run aground; it had been sailing too close to shore and had not been given adequate clearance from port authorities.

Following this incident, Louis Cruise Lines decided to retire their vessel from service permanently due to its age and extent of damage sustained. In December 2007, after being towed away from Santorini Island, it was sold for scrap metal and decommissioned at Alang Shipyard in India where it remains today.

The name of the British cruise ship that ran aground off Santorini Island in 2007 was MS Sea Diamond. It was owned by Epirotiki Line until 2007 when it was bought by Louis Cruise Lines and refurbished before being retired from service permanently due to extensive damage sustained during its incident off Santorini Island.
