What Year Was a League of Their Own European Road Trip?

When it comes to sports movies, one of the most iconic films of all time has to be “A League of Their Own”. This 1992 movie, directed by Penny Marshall, tells the story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL), which was created during World War II when many male baseball players were serving in the military. The film follows the Rockford Peaches, one of the teams in the league, and their journey through the first season.

But did you know that there was a spin-off reality TV show called “A League of Their Own: European Road Trip”? This show followed some of the original cast members as they traveled across Europe playing exhibition games and experiencing different cultures. So what year did this show air?

The answer is 2019. That’s right – over 25 years after the movie first came out, some of the original cast members reunited for this six-part series. Among those who participated were Megan Cavanagh (who played Marla Hooch), Tracy Reiner (Betty ‘Spaghetti’ Horn), and even two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks (who played coach Jimmy Dugan).

In “European Road Trip”, these actors were joined by British comedians Jamie Redknapp and Romesh Ranganathan as they traveled through Spain, France, Germany, and Italy. Along the way, they played games against local teams and had various cultural experiences – such as trying out flamenco dancing in Madrid or making pasta in Italy.

The show was well-received by audiences and critics alike. Many appreciated seeing these beloved characters back on screen after so many years, while others enjoyed watching them interact with each other in a more casual setting. And for baseball fans, it was exciting to see some actual gameplay – even if it wasn’t quite at professional level.

Overall, “A League of Their Own: European Road Trip” was a fun and heartwarming addition to the franchise. While it’s unclear if there will be any future installments, it’s clear that the legacy of this movie is still going strong decades later.
