Mount Airy Lodge was one of the most well-known resorts in the Poconos. Located in Paradise Township, it was founded by Louis DeNaples in 1898. It started off as a small lodge but grew over time into a massive resort that boasted more than 400 rooms and suites.
For decades, Mount Airy Lodge attracted visitors with its luxurious amenities and activities such as skiing, horseback riding, and golfing. It was also famous for its on-site nightclub and casino which entertained guests throughout their stay.
However, as time passed by, competition in the hospitality industry grew exponentially with newer and trendier resorts opening up nearby. As a result, Mount Airy Lodge started to lose its charm and popularity among tourists.
In 2001, after over 100 years of operation, Mount Airy Lodge officially closed down due to financial difficulties. The resort had been facing financial problems for years before finally closing its doors for good.
The property remained vacant for several years until it was purchased by Louis DeNaples’ daughter Lisa DeNaples in 2004. She later converted it into a casino which still bears the name “Mount Airy”.
