When Did Zaandam Cruise Ship Leave Port?

By Robert Palmer

The Zaandam Cruise Ship left port on March 7, 2020. It was the first cruise ship to depart from the United States since the Covid-19 pandemic began.

The Zaandam was originally scheduled to depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but due to safety protocols, it had to make a stop in the Bahamas before leaving port.

The cruise ship had been on a two-week Caribbean voyage when it was forced to turn around and leave port after passengers on board reported feeling ill. The cause of their illness was not immediately known, but it was suspected that they may have contracted Covid-19. As a result, the ship’s crew took precautionary measures and decided to return to port for further investigation.

Upon its arrival back in Fort Lauderdale, an emergency medical team boarded the ship and began testing passengers for coronavirus. During this time, all passengers were required to stay in their staterooms and were not allowed off the ship until the results of their tests came back negative. After several days of testing and safety protocol implementation, the Zaandam was given clearance to leave port again.

On March 15th, after nearly a week of being docked at port, the Zaandam finally set sail once again. This time around however, it was headed towards its next destination in Aruba with strict health protocols in place on board. The crew had intensified cleaning procedures and had implemented social distancing guidelines throughout the entire vessel.

Conclusion:

The Zaandam Cruise Ship left port on March 7th 2020 and returned on March 15th after being investigated for potential Covid-19 cases among its passengers. After successful implementation of strict health protocols by its crew members, the cruise ship left again for Aruba with everyone still aboard safe and healthy.
