By Robert Palmer

Millennials, those born between 1981 and 1996, have a unique set of needs and desires when it comes to where they live. They want job opportunities, affordability, a vibrant culture and nightlife, good public transportation, access to outdoor activities, and much more. With so many places to choose from, it can be difficult for millennials to decide where is the best place for them to call home.

Boston, Massachusetts has been named the top city for millennials by Niche in 2017. Boston is home to some of the most prestigious universities in the world such as Harvard and MIT which provides millennials with excellent job opportunities.

The city also boasts a thriving culture with an abundance of music venues, art galleries, museums and festivals. Public transportation is easy to use and affordable with the MBTA’s bus and rail system. In addition, millennials are able to take advantage of Boston’s extensive park system which allows them access to outdoor activities year-round.

Austin, Texas has also been named one of the best cities for millennials according to Niche in 2017. Austin is known as the “Live Music Capital of the World” due to its abundance of music venues throughout the city.

Austin also has incredible food options with many restaurants that serve up delicious Tex-Mex cuisine as well as traditional American dishes. In addition, Austin is home to numerous startups which provides young people with great job opportunities as well as many other tech companies.

Portland, Oregon has become a haven for young people looking for a place that embraces creativity and individuality. Portland is one of the most bike-friendly cities in America which makes it easy for millennials to get around without relying on their cars or public transportation. Portland has an abundance of craft breweries as well as amazing coffee shops that serve up some of the best coffee in America.

Millennials have an abundance of options when it comes to finding a place that meets their needs and desires; however, some cities stand out above others due their vibrant culture, job opportunities, affordability and access to outdoor activities such as Boston, Austin and Portland. Each city offers something different yet all three are great places for millennials looking for a place they can call home.
