By Alice Nichols

Are you looking for a way to cool off during the hot summer months in London? Look no further than the many free outdoor swimming spots scattered throughout the city. Whether you’re looking for a quick dip or a place to relax and swim laps, there are plenty of options available.

Hampstead Heath Bathing Ponds

One of the most popular free swimming spots in London is the Hampstead Heath Bathing Ponds. Located in North London, this stunning natural oasis includes three different ponds: one for men, one for women, and one mixed. The water is unheated and may be chilly even on warm days, but it’s a refreshing way to escape the heat.

Brockwell Lido

If you’re looking for a more traditional swimming experience, head to Brockwell Lido in South London. This art-deco style pool was built in the 1930s and has been recently renovated to include modern amenities like a gym and cafe. While there is an entrance fee during peak hours, early morning and evening swims are free.

Serpentine Lido

Located in Hyde Park, Serpentine Lido is another popular spot for swimmers of all levels. This man-made lake is open from June to September and features lifeguards on duty throughout the day. While there is no fee to swim here, be prepared to queue up during peak hours.

Tooting Bec Lido

Tooting Bec Lido is one of the largest outdoor swimming pools in Europe. This South London landmark features a 90-meter pool that’s perfect for both casual swimmers and serious athletes looking to train. While there is an entrance fee during peak hours, early morning swims are free.

Other Options

If none of these options work for you or if you’re looking for a more secluded spot, there are plenty of other free swimming spots scattered throughout London. Some popular options include the Kings Cross Pond Club, Charlton Lido and Lifestyle Club, and the London Fields Lido.

No matter where you choose to swim, be sure to pack appropriate swimwear and check opening times before you go. With so many free outdoor swimming spots available in London, there’s no excuse not to cool off and enjoy the sunshine this summer.
