Where Does the Captain Sit on a Cruise Ship?

By Michael Ferguson

Being the leader of a cruise ship is no small responsibility. The captain is the most senior officer on-board and has ultimate authority over the ship and its passengers.

As such, it’s important to know where the captain sits on a cruise ship.

The captain’s primary workspace is known as the bridge, which is usually located near the top of the vessel and provides a view of the sea. On most modern ships, it’s usually located on or near Deck 10 or 11. It contains all of the navigation and communication equipment that’s necessary for operating a cruise ship, as well as several other important command stations.

The bridge also typically has consoles for monitoring engine operations, weather conditions and other vital information. Inside of the bridge, there is usually a chair reserved specifically for the captain. This chair is typically large and comfortable so that they can be in their seat for long periods while they’re steering or navigating through difficult waters.

In addition to his/her workspace in the bridge, captains also have their own private cabin. This cabin is usually located close to the ship’s command center so that they can be called at any time in case of an emergency or other issue requiring their attention.

Conclusion:

The captain of a cruise ship has an important job to do in order to ensure that everyone onboard has an enjoyable journey. As such, it’s important to know where they sit on a cruise ship – most commonly in their own private cabin close to the bridge or command center where they have access to all of the necessary navigation equipment.
