Where Is Pacific World Cruise Ship Now?

By Robert Palmer

The Pacific World Cruise Ship was once a luxury cruise liner that sailed the world’s oceans, visiting exotic locations and giving its passengers the opportunity to experience a dream vacation. The ship was built by the now defunct Pacific Cruises in 1982 and was one of the first of its kind to offer an all-inclusive cruise experience. It had three decks and could accommodate up to 1,000 passengers.

The ship was first sent out on its maiden voyage in January 1983, and it made stops at ports in Hawaii, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean. In addition to these destinations, the Pacific World Cruise Ship also made trips further afield to places like Australia, South Africa, and Europe.

The ship had several amenities that made it stand out from other cruise liners of its time. It had three pools, two bars, a theater for live entertainment shows, a casino for gambling enthusiasts, a shopping mall for souvenir purchases and duty-free items, and several restaurants serving cuisine from around the world.

Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties faced by Pacific Cruises in 1985, the company was forced to shut down operations and the Pacific World Cruise Ship was taken out of service. After being sold several times over the years to different owners who wanted to either repair or repurpose it for their own use, it eventually ended up in dry dock in Long Beach California where it has been since 2006.

Today there are no immediate plans for the future of this once great vessel but there has been talk of turning it into a floating hotel or museum or even restoring it back into service as a luxury cruise liner once again. Regardless of what happens with this majestic ship in future years though; its past will always be remembered as one that brought joy and adventure to thousands upon thousands of people around the world who were lucky enough to be able to experience life aboard her decks during her heyday.
