The American Melody Cruise Ship made its first voyage in 1984 when it set sail from Miami on a Caribbean cruise. During its time at sea it made ports of call in many Caribbean countries including Jamaica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. The ship also sailed to Europe several times throughout its career with stops in Italy and France.

The American Melody Cruise Ship was retired from service in 2001 after 17 years at sea due to increasing competition from newer vessels with more modern amenities. After being sold off to an unnamed buyer the ship began a new life as an offshore oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
