Where Is the Cruise Ship Viking Sky?

By Robert Palmer

The Viking Sky cruise ship has been the source of much attention in the media recently – and for good reason. On March 23, 2019, the ship was forced to call for help after it encountered engine problems off the coast of Norway. With 479 passengers and crew on board, a daring evacuation effort was launched by air and sea rescue teams to get everyone safely ashore.

The incident occurred while the Viking Sky was en route from Tromso to Stavanger, Norway. High winds and rough seas near Hustadvika, Norway caused the vessel’s engines to fail, leaving it adrift in dangerous waters. Norwegian Coast Guard helicopters were dispatched immediately to airlift as many passengers as they could while nearby vessels conducted search-and-rescue operations.

In total, 479 passengers and crew were rescued from the Viking Sky. Of those 479 people, 20 were taken to hospitals with minor injuries or illnesses related to their evacuation from the vessel. The remaining 459 people were transported safely ashore by other ships in the area or helicopters that arrived on scene for assistance.

The Viking Sky itself is still floating off the coast of Norway but its exact location is not known at this time. The ship was able to restart one engine on March 25th and has been trying to make its way back towards land since then but progress has been slow due to unfavorable weather conditions. The cruise line has stated that they are working with local authorities in an effort to ensure that they take all necessary precautions while securing a safe route back towards port.

The cause of this incident is still under investigation and both maritime officials and cruise line representatives are continuing their efforts to locate and secure the vessel as it returns home. In addition, Norwegian authorities are also conducting an investigation into why it took so long for help to arrive on scene – something that could have potentially put many more lives at risk during this incident had conditions been different when it occurred.

At this time it is unclear when or where exactly the Viking Sky will be arriving back at port but one thing is certain: there are many questions that need answers about what happened during this incident and how future safety protocols can be improved for both passengers and crew alike moving forward.

Conclusion:

The exact location of where the Cruise Ship Viking Sky is remains unknown at this time; however, Norwegian authorities are working hard with local authorities and cruise line representatives in order to ensure a safe route back towards port for all involved parties once weather conditions improve.
