By Robert Palmer

As the world continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions have been put in place by many countries. However, some countries in Asia have started to reopen their borders for tourism. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of these countries and what you need to know before planning your trip.

Thailand

Thailand is one of the most popular destinations in Asia for tourists, and it has started to welcome visitors again. However, there are some strict entry requirements that you must follow.

Firstly, you will need a certificate of entry issued by your local Thai embassy or consulate. You must also take a COVID-19 test and provide proof of a negative result within 72 hours before your flight. Upon arrival in Thailand, you will be subject to a 14-day quarantine in an alternative state quarantine (ASQ) facility.

Japan

Japan is currently open for tourism but only to certain countries including Australia, New Zealand, Brunei, China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam. Visitors from these countries must undergo a COVID-19 test within 72 hours before their flight and provide proof of negative results. They will also be required to take another test upon arrival and self-isolate for 14 days.

Bali (Indonesia)

Bali is planning to reopen its borders for international tourism soon with new health protocols in place such as mandatory mask-wearing and regular temperature checks at tourist attractions. Visitors will also need to present negative COVID-19 test results taken within 72 hours prior to departure.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has opened its borders for tourism but only through designated “bio-bubble” hotels where visitors can stay during their trip. Travellers must undergo multiple PCR tests throughout their stay and follow strict guidelines in order to maintain the integrity of the bio-bubble.

Singapore

Singapore has also started to welcome visitors again, but only from certain countries including Australia, Brunei, Mainland China, New Zealand, Taiwan and Vietnam. Visitors must undergo a PCR test within 72 hours before their flight and provide proof of negative results. Upon arrival in Singapore, they will be required to take another test and self-isolate while waiting for the results.
