Who is the Central Tourism Minister?

The current Central Tourism Minister of India is Prahlad Singh Patel. He was appointed as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism on May 31, 2019, as a part of the second Modi cabinet.

Early Life and Education

Patel was born on June 28, 1960, in Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Science from Government College, Narsinghpur. Patel then went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar.

Political Career

Patel began his political career as a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In 1994, he was elected as a member of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly for the first time from Narsinghpur constituency. He continued to be re-elected from the same constituency until 2019.

In May 2014, Patel was appointed as the Minister of State for Coal and Mines in the Modi government. Later, in September 2017, he was made the Minister of State for Culture (Independent Charge).
