Who Owns Camelback Resort?

By Alice Nichols

If you’re planning a trip to Camelback Resort, you may be wondering who owns this popular vacation spot. The answer is simple: Camelback Resort is owned by the KSL Capital Partners. This private equity firm has invested in a number of ski resorts and other hospitality businesses, making them a major player in the industry.

The History of Camelback Resort

Camelback Resort has a long and interesting history that stretches back to the 1960s. The resort was originally known as “Big Pocono Ski Area” and was opened in 1963 by Olympic skier, Gene Mulvihill. Over the years, Mulvihill continued to expand the resort with new trails, lifts, and amenities.

In 1981, Mulvihill added a water park to the resort called “Camelbeach”. This was one of the first water parks in the country and helped put Camelback on the map as a year-round destination.

The Arrival of KSL Capital Partners

In 2018, KSL Capital Partners acquired Camelback Resort from Mulvihill’s family. At the time of acquisition, Camelback was considered one of the largest ski resorts in Pennsylvania with over 160 acres of skiable terrain and more than 37 trails.

KSL Capital Partners saw potential in Camelback as a family-friendly resort that offered both skiing and water park activities. They have since invested millions of dollars into upgrading and expanding the resort’s facilities.

What to Expect at Camelback Today

Today, visitors to Camelback can enjoy a wide range of activities including skiing, snowboarding, tubing, zip-lining, mountain biking, hiking and much more. The resort also boasts an impressive indoor water park that is open year-round.

In addition to these attractions, Camelback offers a variety of dining options ranging from casual cafes to upscale restaurants. There are also numerous shops and boutiques on site where visitors can purchase souvenirs and other items.

The Future of Camelback Resort

With the backing of KSL Capital Partners, Camelback Resort is poised for continued growth and expansion. The resort has already undergone significant upgrades in recent years, including the addition of new ski trails, lifts, and other amenities.

Looking ahead, Camelback plans to continue investing in its facilities in order to provide visitors with an even better experience. Whether you’re a seasoned skier or simply looking for a fun family vacation spot, Camelback Resort is definitely worth a visit.
