The Early Years
Sasquatch Mountain Resort, previously known as Hemlock Valley Resort, was first established in 1969. At that time, it was owned by a group of investors led by Jack Cram, a Vancouver businessman. The resort consisted of just two chairlifts and a small lodge.
In 1981, Cram sold the resort to two American businessmen – Jim Pattison and John McCulloch. They invested heavily in expanding the facilities and improving infrastructure to attract more visitors. By the early 1990s, Sasquatch Mountain Resort had become one of the most popular ski resorts in British Columbia.
The Sale to Berezan Group
In 1996, Jim Pattison and John McCulloch sold Sasquatch Mountain Resort to Berezan Group, a real estate development company based in Vancouver. Under their ownership, major upgrades were made to the ski hill including new lifts and expanded terrain.
However, Berezan Group struggled financially during the early 2000s and eventually filed for bankruptcy in 2009. This left Sasquatch Mountain Resort without an owner or operator.
New Ownership under McLaughlin Family
After Berezan Group’s bankruptcy filing, Sasquatch Mountain Resort was purchased by Ralph McLaughlin Jr., his wife Maureen McLaughlin and their son Ralph McLaughlin III. The McLaughlin family had been long-time residents of Hemlock Valley and were passionate about revitalizing the resort.
Under their ownership, Sasquatch Mountain Resort underwent major renovations and upgrades. In 2017, the resort underwent a rebranding and was renamed Sasquatch Mountain Resort to reflect its unique location in the mountains of British Columbia.
Current Status
As of 2021, Sasquatch Mountain Resort is still owned by the McLaughlin family. The resort continues to attract visitors from all over the world with its stunning natural beauty and top-notch facilities.
