By Anna Duncan

Wolf Creek Ski Resort is a popular ski destination located in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. The resort sits on Wolf Creek Pass, which is known for its high annual snowfall and diverse terrain.

So, who owns Wolf Creek Ski Resort? The answer is Davey Pitcher. He has been the sole owner of the resort since he purchased it in 1976.

Pitcher, who was born and raised in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, has a deep love for skiing and the outdoors. He started working at Wolf Creek Ski Resort as a ski patroller in the 1960s and eventually worked his way up to become the general manager. In 1976, when the previous owners decided to sell the resort, Pitcher saw an opportunity to take ownership and jumped at it.

Under Pitcher’s ownership, Wolf Creek Ski Resort has undergone numerous expansions and improvements. The resort now boasts over 1,600 skiable acres with 10 lifts and over 80 trails. Additionally, there are multiple terrain parks for snowboarders and freestyle skiers.

One of the unique aspects of Wolf Creek Ski Resort is its focus on being family-owned and operated. Pitcher’s daughter Rosanne is heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of the resort as well as its long-term planning.

In recent years, there has been some controversy surrounding potential development on land adjacent to Wolf Creek Ski Resort. Some people have expressed concern that such development could harm the natural beauty of the area or impact local wildlife populations.

Despite these concerns, Pitcher remains committed to preserving the unique character of Wolf Creek Ski Resort while also ensuring its continued success as a premier ski destination.

So while Davey Pitcher may not be a household name like some other ski industry titans, his dedication to owning and operating one of Colorado’s most beloved ski resorts is certainly noteworthy.
