Why Did the Woman Jump Off Cruise Ship?

By Anna Duncan

On the night of May 13th, a woman jumped off the cruise ship ‘Star Princess’ as it was sailing near the Bahamas.
The woman, identified as 26-year-old Kay Longstaff, had been on the ship with her family and friends for a week-long vacation. After enjoying the evening’s entertainment, Longstaff reportedly left the group and went to one of the decks alone before jumping off.

Remarkably, Longstaff was rescued 10 hours later by Croatian rescue teams after swimming for that entire time. She was found floating in a stable condition about one mile from where she had jumped off. The rescue teams noted that she had stayed afloat by holding onto her flip flops.

Since then, many people have wondered why Longstaff decided to jump off the ship. Reports suggest that she may have been under distress due to an argument with her companion prior to jumping off. It is also possible that she may have become overwhelmed with anxiety or fear due to being at sea.

Longstaff herself has not yet commented on why she jumped off and has only said that she is “lucky to be alive”. Her family has also asked for privacy while they come to terms with what happened.

Conclusion:
The exact reason why Kay Longstaff jumped off of the cruise ship ‘Star Princess’ is still unknown. It could have been due to an argument with her companion or due to anxiety or fear while at sea. Whatever the case may be, it is remarkable that she was able to survive 10 hours of swimming in open waters and was eventually rescued by Croatian rescue teams.
