Why Is There a Cruise Ship Sitting Off Miami Beach?

By Anna Duncan

For weeks, a cruise ship has been sitting off the coast of Miami Beach, Florida. It’s a strange sight for locals and tourists alike, but the reasons behind it are actually quite simple. The cruise ship, named the Grand Celebration, is owned by Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line and is operating as a quarantine vessel for those who have tested positive for COVID-19.

In an effort to help contain the spread of the virus and protect public health, cruise ships have been used as floating hospitals to house those who have tested positive for COVID-19. The Grand Celebration is one such vessel that is currently being used as a quarantine facility. It has been in place since April 2020 and has been allowing those on board to stay in their cabins under medical supervision.

Those on board are monitored closely by medical staff from the company and are provided with meals and medical care during their stay. In addition, they are also able to take part in recreational activities such as yoga classes and movie screenings while they wait out their quarantine period.

The Grand Celebration is not the only cruise ship that has been used as a quarantine facility during this pandemic. Other ships such as Royal Caribbean’s Celebrity Cruises have also taken part in this effort to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

By using these vessels as floating hospitals, officials are able to provide much needed care to those who may not be able to access it elsewhere. This also helps free up space in local hospitals which can then be used for more urgent cases.

Conclusion:

The Grand Celebration cruise ship has been sitting off Miami Beach since April 2020 and is being used as a quarantine vessel for those who have tested positive for COVID-19. This helps free up space in local hospitals while providing much needed medical care to those on board. Cruise ships such as these have proven to be an effective way of helping contain the spread of the virus during this pandemic.
