Why Isn’t Guam a Tourist Destination?

By Anna Duncan

Guam is a small island located in the western Pacific Ocean, and is part of the Mariana Islands archipelago. It has been an American territory since 1898 and is the largest of the US Pacific Islands. Despite its beautiful landscape, stunning beaches and rich culture, Guam is not a popular tourist destination.

Unlike its neighbors in the Pacific such as Hawaii and Tahiti, Guam does not boast an array of sophisticated resorts nor any large-scale attractions to bring visitors in droves. While there are some luxury resorts on Guam, they are few and far between compared to other more popular tourist destinations in the region.

The lack of infrastructure also hinders visitors from coming to Guam. The island’s airport is small and services only limited flights from select countries including Japan and the Philippines.

The lack of direct flights from major cities around the world limits Guam’s access to potential tourists. Additionally, there are no direct ferry services connecting Guam to other islands in the region which means that travelers have to take multiple flights or sailings just to get here.

Guam’s remote location makes it difficult for tourists to get here without spending a significant amount of money on travel costs . This combined with its limited accommodation options makes it difficult for travelers on a budget to visit Guam .

Another factor that contributes to Guam’s lack of international tourists is that it lacks an established tourism industry. The island does not have much in terms of organized activities or events for visitors to participate in . Tourists often visit places such as Hawaii or Thailand because there are numerous activities such as snorkeling , sightseeing , shopping , etc., but these activities are limited on Guam . Additionally, most locals do not speak English which can be off-putting for some international tourists who may find it difficult communicating with locals or navigating around the island .

Despite all this, there are still some advantages that make visiting Guam worth considering. For one, its unique location at the crossroads of Asia and North America gives it a unique cultural blend that cannot be found elsewhere. Additionally, while there may not be many organized activities on offer here , visitors can still enjoy exploring nature , scuba diving , snorkeling , kayaking and hiking .

In conclusion, while Guam is an interesting place with many attractions worth exploring, it does not appeal to mass tourism due its remote location, lack of infrastructure and limited accommodation options as well as a lack of established tourism industry or activities for visitors.

Why Isn’t Guam a Tourist Destination?
Ultimately, it comes down to several factors such as its remote location, lack of infrastructure, limited accommodation options and a lack of established tourism industry which has resulted in less international tourists visiting this beautiful island paradise.
