Will There Be Another National Lampoon’s Vacation Movie?

By Michael Ferguson

National Lampoon’s Vacation is a classic American comedy film franchise that has been entertaining audiences for over three decades. The original movie, released in 1983, starred Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold, a hapless family man who takes his wife and two children on a disastrous cross-country road trip to the fictional amusement park Walley World.

Since then, the franchise has spawned several sequels and spinoffs, including European Vacation (1985), Christmas Vacation (1989), Vegas Vacation (1997), and a made-for-TV movie titled National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie’s Island Adventure (2003).

Given the enduring popularity of the franchise, it is natural to wonder if there will be another National Lampoon’s Vacation movie. Unfortunately for fans of the series, there are currently no plans for a new installment in the franchise.

In fact, the last major release in the series was the 2015 film simply titled Vacation. This movie served as both a sequel and a soft reboot of sorts, with Ed Helms taking on the role of Rusty Griswold – now all grown up and taking his own family on a trip to Walley World.

Despite its star-studded cast that included Christina Applegate and Chris Hemsworth, this movie failed to live up to box office expectations and was met with mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike.

So why hasn’t there been another National Lampoon’s Vacation movie? It could be due to several factors.

For one thing, Chevy Chase – who was arguably the face of the franchise – has had public feuds with some of his co-stars in recent years. Additionally, many fans feel that any new installment in the series would struggle to live up to the beloved original film or even Christmas Vacation.

That being said, it is not impossible that we will see another National Lampoon’s Vacation movie at some point in the future. Hollywood is always looking for ways to revive old franchises and appeal to nostalgia-hungry audiences, after all.

In the meantime, fans of the series can still enjoy the classic films that made it so popular in the first place. Whether it’s Clark Griswold’s misadventures on the open road or Cousin Eddie’s unconventional Christmas shenanigans, there is no shortage of laughs to be had with this timeless comedy series.

Conclusion:

While there are currently no plans for a new National Lampoon’s Vacation movie, fans of the franchise can still enjoy its classic films. Whether or not we will see another installment in the future remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure – the legacy of Clark Griswold and his family will continue to make audiences laugh for years to come.
