Can a Whale Destroy a Cruise Ship?

By Michael Ferguson

Whales are among the largest animals on planet earth, with some species growing to over 200 tons. Because of their size and power, it is natural for people to wonder if a whale could truly destroy a cruise ship.

The truth is that while whales are powerful creatures, they do not have the strength or size to cause significant damage to a cruise ship. The average cruising speed of most ships is around 20 knots, meaning that they can travel at speeds faster than most whales can swim. In addition, the hulls of modern ships are reinforced with steel plating that would be difficult for even the largest whale to breach.

However, while a whale may not be able to physically damage a cruise ship, it can still cause a great deal of disruption and inconvenience. Whales are known to surface suddenly and unexpectedly in shipping lanes which can create dangerous situations on the water. If a large whale were to become entangled in a ship’s propeller or rudder, it could cause significant delays as well as costly repairs.

In conclusion, while whales may not have the capability of destroying an entire cruise ship on their own, they can still cause significant disruption and delays if they come into contact with one. Can A Whale Destroy A Cruise Ship? The answer is no – but it can certainly cause disruption and delay if it comes into contact with one!
