Could a Blue Whale Knock Over a Cruise Ship?

By Alice Nichols

Cruise ships are huge vessels, and blue whales are the largest mammals on Earth. Considering the size of these two, one might ask: could a blue whale knock over a cruise ship?

The answer is probably not. A blue whale’s body is incredibly heavy, but it typically weighs around 200 tons.

That’s an incredible amount of weight, but it is still much less than the tens of thousands of tons of displacement weight that cruise ships possess. Additionally, blue whales don’t have the strength or speed to move a cruise ship off its course or knock it over.

Blue whales can reach 20 meters in length and weigh up to 190 metric tons, so they are certainly a force to be reckoned with. Their large size and power makes them formidable predators in the ocean, and they can use their powerful tail fins to move through the water at speeds up to 30 miles per hour.

However, despite their impressive size and strength, blue whales are gentle giants who rarely attack humans or large vessels like cruise ships. They mostly feed on krill and other small creatures found near the surface of the ocean.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, while blue whales are undeniably impressive creatures with incredible strength and power, their size and weight simply cannot compete with that of a cruise ship. As such, it is highly unlikely that a blue whale could knock over a cruise ship.
