Has Anyone Ever Jumped Off of a Cruise Ship?

By Alice Nichols

The idea of anyone jumping off of a cruise ship is a scary one, because the ocean can be dangerous and unpredictable. However, for whatever reason, there have been cases when people have done so.

In 2017, a 25-year-old man jumped off of a Royal Caribbean cruise ship in the Bahamas. The man had reportedly been drinking heavily and was not seen again until he was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard several hours later.

In another incident on a Carnival Cruise Line ship in 2018, an elderly man fell overboard while the vessel was in Cozumel, Mexico. He had jumped off the ship to get away from his wife, who he was arguing with at the time. Unfortunately, his body was never recovered.

These cases are not isolated incidents either. In 2019, two people jumped off a Royal Caribbean International cruise ship near Puerto Rico after reportedly being involved in a fight on board. Both were rescued by the U.S Coast Guard shortly after they went overboard.

Conclusion:

The cases of people jumping off of cruise ships are alarming and demonstrate how dangerous it can be to go overboard into open waters without proper safety precautions taken beforehand.
