How Big Was the Titanic Compared to a Carnival Cruise Ship?

By Alice Nichols

The Titanic was one of the most famous ships in history – its name carries with it a sense of tragedy, adventure and awe.

The Titanic was 882 feet long and 92.5 feet wide, making it one of the largest passenger ships ever built at the time. It weighed 46,328 tons and had a top speed of 21 knots (24 mph). The ship had a total of 2,435 passengers on board when it set sail in April 1912.

Today, cruise ships are much bigger than the Titanic. The largest cruise ship in operation today is Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas, which is 1,188 feet long and 215 feet wide.

This massive ship weighs 226,963 tons and can reach speeds up to 22 knots (25 mph). It has a capacity for 6,780 passengers.

So how does the size of the Titanic compare to modern-day Carnival Cruise Ships?

Carnival Cruise Line’s largest ship is Carnival Vista which measures 1,055 feet long and 167 feet wide. This huge vessel weighs 133,500 tons and can reach speeds up to 22 knots (25 mph). It has room for up to 4,936 passengers.

When compared to Carnival Cruise Line’s largest ship – Carnival Vista – the Titanic appears small by comparison. The length difference between them is 127 feet while the width difference is 50 feet. The weight difference between them is 93,463 tons while their top speed differences are negligible.

Conclusion:

The Titanic was significantly smaller than modern-day Carnival Cruise Ships. While it was once one of the largest ships ever built at 882 feet long and 92.5 feet wide with a weight of 46,328 tons; Carnival Cruise Line’s flagship vessel – Carnival Vista – dwarfs it at 1,055 feet long and 167 feet wide with a weight of 133,500 tons.
