The Modern Day Cruise Ship Vs. Titanic
The modern day cruise ship, and the Titanic, have many similarities and differences. Both vessels have been built to be luxurious and comfortable for passengers, but the Titanic was built over 100 years ago, while modern cruise ships are constructed with 21st century technology.
The Titanic was 882.5 feet long and 175 feet high, making it the largest passenger ship ever built at that time. Today’s cruise ships dwarf this record setter in size – Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas is 1,187 feet long and 226.5 feet tall. It is capable of carrying 5,400 passengers and 2,300 crew members on each voyage!
In terms of amenities on board, both ships were designed to give passengers an enjoyable experience. The Titanic had facilities such as a gymnasium with a swimming pool, a Turkish bath and an electric elevator – all luxuries which were considered quite advanced for its day. Modern cruise ships take luxury to a whole new level – they boast features like ziplines, rock climbing walls, ice skating rinks, spas and swimming pools with water slides!
In terms of safety standards there is a huge difference between the two vessels. The Titanic did not have enough lifeboats for everyone on board; if it had been required to evacuate all passengers in an emergency situation it would have been impossible to do so with the available resources. On modern cruise ships however safety is of utmost importance; every vessel has enough lifeboats for everyone onboard and must adhere to strict regulations set by governing bodies such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Overall there is no comparison between a modern day cruise ship and the Titanic; while they share some similar amenities they differ greatly in size, safety standards and technology used in their construction. Modern day cruises are designed with comfort, luxury and safety in mind – features that were not taken into consideration when constructing the ill-fated vessel of 1912.
Conclusion: It is clear that there are vast differences between a modern day cruise ship versus the Titanic when it comes to size, amenities available onboard as well as safety standards. Modern vessels offer passengers unprecedented levels of comfort during their voyage while ensuring that they are safe at all times thanks to strict regulations set by governing bodies such as the IMO.
