What Happened to the Man Who Fell Off the Cruise Ship?

By Anna Duncan

On the night of February 8th, 2020, tragedy struck on the deck of a Mediterranean cruise ship. A man, who was later identified as David Smith, had fallen overboard and was never heard from again. The ship had been sailing in international waters off the coast of Spain when the incident occurred.

At the time of his fall, Smith had been drinking with friends and seemed to be in good spirits. He had stepped away for a moment to take a phone call when he suddenly slipped and fell overboard without warning. Witnesses reported that he was quickly swept away by the strong currents of the sea before anyone could reach him.

The crew of the cruise ship immediately alerted authorities in nearby ports and launched their own search and rescue mission to try and locate Smith. Unfortunately, after days of searching, there were no signs of him or his body anywhere in the area.

This prompted speculation into what may have happened to Smith after he fell off the cruise ship that fateful night. Some theorized that he may have managed to survive in his life vest until he drifted close enough to one of Spain’s many shorelines where he could have been rescued by local fishermen or beachgoers. Others speculated that he may have succumbed to hypothermia or dehydration due to being exposed to the cold open waters for too long.

Conclusion:

What happened to David Smith is still unknown as no trace of him has ever been found despite extensive searches by authorities and his family members. We can only hope that if he did survive his fall from the cruise ship then he was able to reach safety on one of Spain’s many shorelines where someone would be able to help him out.
