Cruise ships are a popular choice for travelers looking to spend an extended period of time on the open sea. With all the amenities they offer, they provide a great way to explore different parts of the world in a luxurious and comfortable way. Unfortunately, cruise ship accidents do occur from time to time.

Let’s take a look at when the most recent cruise ship accident took place.

The most recent accident is believed to have occurred in 2018, when the Costa Concordia capsized off the coast of Isola del Giglio in Italy. The tragedy was caused when the captain deviated from his planned course and steered towards an island, which resulted in a collision with an underwater rock shelf. As a result, 32 people lost their lives and numerous others were injured.

The Costa Concordia saw its first signs of trouble when it began taking on water near Giglio Island. The crew attempted to evacuate as many passengers as possible but were unable to reach all areas of the ship due to difficulties navigating around debris and furniture that had shifted due to the listing of the vessel.

After this disaster, cruise ships have implemented more safety protocols including increased passenger safety drills, improved lifeboat maintenance and increased training for crew members. In addition, new technologies such as GPS tracking systems and automatic alarms have been put in place in order to prevent similar accidents from occurring again.
