By Robert Palmer

Cruise ships come in all shapes and sizes, and deciding which is the biggest one can be difficult. The three largest cruise ships in the world are Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, and Symphony of the Seas. All three ships have a maximum capacity of 6,680 passengers and crew and measure 1,184 feet (360 meters) in length.

The Oasis of the Seas was launched in 2009 and was the first ship to be built from the ground up by Royal Caribbean. It has seven distinct neighborhoods—Central Park, Boardwalk, Pool & Sports Zone, Vitality Spa & Fitness Center, Entertainment Place, Youth Zone, and Royal Promenade—that offer an array of activities for passengers to enjoy. It also features two 43-foot rock climbing walls, two FlowRider surf simulators, a zip line nine decks above sea level, an ice rink, a casino and more!

Allure of the Seas is a sister ship to Oasis of the Seas and was launched just one year later in 2010. While it is slightly smaller than Oasis of the Seas at 1,187 feet (362 meters), it is still one of the largest ships ever built. It has many of the same amenities as Oasis with some unique features such as a carousel on the Boardwalk and an outdoor amphitheater for entertainment.

Symphony of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s newest addition to their fleet. It was launched in 2018 as a sister ship to Allure but offers even more features than its predecessors.

It has some new restaurants like El Loco Fresh serving Mexican food or Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade featuring virtual reality games as well as classic favorites like Chops Grille steakhouse or Sabor Taqueria & Tequila Bar. It also offers amazing activities such as zip lining across two decks or a two-story water slide!
