Who Jumped From Carnival Cruise Ship?

By Robert Palmer

A shocking incident occurred on July 19, 2020, when a 27-year-old woman jumped off a Carnival Cruise ship near the Cayman Islands. The woman was identified as Samantha Broberg from Texas, a passenger aboard the Carnival Fantasy cruise ship. Broberg had boarded the vessel in Mobile, Alabama, and was expected to disembark in Cozumel, Mexico.

At around 6:15 p.m. local time on July 19, Broberg jumped overboard from the ninth deck of the cruise ship about 20 miles away from Grand Cayman Island. According to reports from Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson Vance Gulliksen, a search and rescue operation began immediately and lasted for more than 12 hours before she was eventually found by rescuers.

The U.S. Coast Guard coordinated with multiple agencies during this search and rescue operation including the Royal Caribbean International Vessel Oasis of the Seas and other vessels in the area to help scour the waters for Broberg. In addition, two helicopters were dispatched from Grand Cayman Island to assist in the search effort as well as two tug boats which were sent from Cuba and Jamaica respectively.

The search team was able to locate Broberg around 6:00 a., almost 12 hours after she had been reported missing at sea. She was found clinging to an icy cold life raft about 8 miles south of Grand Cayman Island where she was rescued by rescuers aboard a helicopter who immediately took her back to safety on land.

Once ashore at George Town Hospital in Grand Cayman Island, medical personnel assisted her with minor injuries she had sustained while at sea during her ordeal such as dehydration and sunburns on her face and arms due to exposure while out at sea without protection under intense sunlight all day long without any shade or shelter available for her out there on that life raft alone in open waters

Although it is still unclear why Broberg decided to jump off the cruise ship in the middle of its voyage, it is clear that this could have ended much worse if not for the quick response of all involved agencies who worked together tirelessly towards rescuing her from what could have been certain death at sea if left alone out there for any longer period of time.

Conclusion:

Samantha Broberg survived her ordeal after jumping off a Carnival Cruise Ship near Grand Cayman Island due to an effective search and rescue operation coordinated by multiple agencies including U.S Coast Guard Royal Caribbean International Vessel Oasis of The Seas and other vessels in the area which eventually helped find her alive adrift 8 miles south of Grand Cayman Itland clinging onto an icy cold life raft.
