How Did the Lady Fall Off the Carnival Cruise Ship?

By Anna Duncan

The world was shocked on the night of May 13th, when a woman aboard a Carnival Cruise fell off the ship and went missing. The tragedy happened in the late evening hours, when the ship was about 40 miles from Cozumel, Mexico.

The woman was identified as Kay Longstaff, a 46-year-old British national. She had been on board the Carnival Cruise Line’s Costa Magica cruise ship with her boyfriend at the time of the accident. According to reports, Longstaff had gone out on deck with her boyfriend around 11:30pm and decided to take a swim.

Unfortunately, due to strong currents and high seas, Longstaff was unable to make it back to the cruise ship. Her boyfriend reportedly tried to help her but was unable to get her back onboard. It is believed that she fell off the side of the boat and disappeared into the darkness of night.

The cruise line stated in their official statement that they launched an immediate search for Longstaff after being alerted by passengers onboard who heard cries for help from Longstaff’s direction. They also said that they have worked closely with authorities in both Mexico and Europe throughout their investigation.

The search for Longstaff lasted for nearly 10 hours before she was miraculously found alive by a Croatian Navy rescue boat approximately 60 miles away from where she had gone missing. She was taken to hospital where she is currently being treated for what appears to be minor injuries.
