Was Noah’s Ark as Big as a Cruise Ship?

By Alice Nichols

It is widely accepted that Noah’s Ark was a vessel of significant size. But how big was it really? Was it as big as a modern-day cruise ship?

The Bible does not provide exact measurements for Noah’s Ark, but it does give clues. The Bible describes the Ark as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high.

This would make the Ark 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. To put this into perspective, a modern-day cruise ship typically measures around 900 to 1100 feet in length. This means that Noah’s Ark would have been half the length of a modern-day cruise ship.

In terms of width, most modern-day cruise ships measure around 106 to 118 feet in width. This means that the width of Noah’s Ark would have been less than half that of a modern-day cruise ship.

In terms of height, most modern-day cruise ships measure around 17 to 20 stories tall. This means that the height of Noah’s Ark would have been significantly lower than that of a modern-day cruise ship.

But what about capacity? Most modern-day cruise ships can carry upwards of 5000 passengers and crew members at any given time. It is impossible to know exactly how many people were on board the ark, but estimates suggest that it could comfortably accommodate between 100 – 150 people at any given time.

So while we cannot say for certain whether or not Noah’s Ark was as big as a modern-day cruise ship, it is clear from the evidence available that it was significantly smaller in terms of length, width and height. Conclusion: Based on the evidence available, it appears unlikely that Noah’s Ark was as big as a modern-day cruise ship.
