Which Is Bigger the Titanic or a Modern Cruise Ship?

By Michael Ferguson

The Titanic is a ship that has become legendary for its size and the sheer tragedy surrounding it. It was the largest passenger ship of its time, but could a modern cruise ship be bigger than it?

The Titanic was 882 feet long and 92 feet wide, with a gross tonnage of 46,000. It could carry over 2,200 passengers and had a crew of almost 900 people.

By today’s standards, the Titanic was an enormous ship. In comparison, the average length of modern cruise ships is between 951 and 1,100 feet. The biggest cruise ships in operation today are more than four times larger than the Titanic in terms of gross tonnage.

Modern cruise ships also have far more advanced amenities than the Titanic did. They feature elaborate spas, nightclubs, casinos, multiple restaurants and bars, theaters, shopping malls and much more.

Many also offer activities such as rock climbing walls, ice-skating rinks, zip lines and surfing simulators. These features make them much more attractive to potential customers than the comparatively basic facilities on offer aboard the Titanic.

When it comes to size, there is no doubt that today’s cruise ships are much bigger than their predecessors from over 100 years ago like the Titanic. However, when it comes to amenities and attractions on board these vessels, modern cruise ships put even the most luxurious of ocean liners from yesteryear to shame.

Conclusion: It is clear that when it comes to size and capacity modern cruise ships are far larger than the Titanic ever was. However they also offer far greater levels of comfort and entertainment which makes them even more appealing to passengers looking for an unforgettable journey at sea.
