On the night of July 13, 2019, a tragedy occurred in the Mediterranean Sea when a young woman fell off of a cruise ship. The woman has been identified as 27-year-old Kay Longstaff from Britain. She had been aboard the Norwegian Star cruiser along with her partner and had gone out to the deck to take in the night air when she slipped and fell overboard.

Longstaff was able to remain afloat for 10 hours until she was spotted by Croatian rescue teams who were searching for her. During that time she kept her spirits up by singing songs from her favorite musicals, including “The Sound of Music” and “Mamma Mia!” Her singing caught the attention of a nearby fishing boat, who alerted authorities to her location.
