By Michael Ferguson

On October 22, 2019, a woman fell off a cruise ship off the coast of Croatia. The woman has been identified as Kay Longstaff, a 46-year-old British tourist.

Longstaff was reported missing after she went overboard at around midnight while the ship sailed from Venice to Pula, Croatia.

The crew of the cruise ship immediately launched a search for Longstaff and notified authorities in both Croatia and Italy. After about ten hours in the water, Longstaff was found by a Croatian Coast Guard helicopter team about 60 miles south-east of Pula.

She was reportedly conscious and alert when she was rescued from the Adriatic Sea.

Longstaff is believed to have fallen off the Norwegian Star cruise ship while it was traveling at full speed along its route. She had been on holiday with her partner when she went overboard; he initially reported her missing when he noticed that she wasn’t on the ship anymore.

According to reports, Longstaff had climbed onto the railing of the deck before falling into the water below.

Longstaff’s rescue has been described as miraculous, as she managed to survive in rough sea conditions for over 10 hours without any floatation device or protective clothing. Upon rescue, she told reporters that she had kept herself afloat by singing songs and floating on her back during her time in the water.

She also revealed that she was an experienced swimmer who had competed in long-distance swimming events before.

Conclusion:
Kay Longstaff is an incredibly lucky woman who managed to survive ten hours in rough seas after falling off a cruise ship off the coast of Croatia. Her experience as a long-distance swimmer likely helped her stay afloat for so long without any floatation devices or protective clothing. A miraculous rescue effort by Croatian authorities eventually found her alive and well 60 miles away from where she fell off the boat.
